English

“So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install, A lovely bookshelf on the wall.”
(Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Reading, Writing and Speaking all all inextricably linked.  We try to bring all of these elements together, along with spelling and handwriting for good measure and deliver them through a topic approach which really engages our children.  In English we aim to:
  • develop pupils’ abilities to communicate effectively  through speaking and writing.
  • develop pupils to become enthusiastic, responsive and knowledgeable speakers, readers and writers.
  • help pupils understand how language enables them to experience and appreciate their world and the realms of the imagination.
  • experience English through a variety of media.
  • help pupils understand the function and importance of Standard English.
