Maths@Longstone: Planning
Once the children have a secure understanding of key skills, we then link these to carefully planned and sequenced abstract concepts. We focus on reasoning and applying skills taught, problem solving and whenever the opportunity arises link learning to real life situations.
At Longstone, we follow the White Rose schemes of learning that employ concrete, pictorial and abstract aspects of maths to develop fluency in all areas. This is backed up by a common calculation policy that shows the progression of knowledge through a child's life at the school.
