Starting school is a daunting thing when you’re 4 years old! We are committed to making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. We work alongside all pre-school settings to offer a range of activities which will support your child in starting school. We appreciate that not all children attend Great Longstone Preschool, but we hope your child will be able to come to some of the sessions on offer.
There are a number of activities on offer to support for your child starting school in September.
The reception staff will visit your child in their current setting in the summer term to introduce themselves and read your child a story.
Mini Taster Session
Children will spend about an hour getting to know the setting, and enjoying the activities provided.
Parent Information Meeting
We hold a meeting for parents of reception children in the summer term. At this meeting parents receive an information pack which will hopefully explain everything in case you forget all the information we tell you! A uniform order form is included in the pack. There will be a representative from the School Dinner Service to tell you about the food we provide for children which is all cooked on-site in our 'Gold' certified kitchen.
'Stay and Play' sessions
Children will be invited to come to school to eat their dinner, meeting each other and the staff. Following lunch they will play on the playground with their allocated Year 5 ‘buddies’. We usually offer opportunities for children to experience both packed lunches and a hot dinner each time they come.
How did we do?
