Design & Technology

Intent

At Longstone CE Primary School, Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject.

Children are nurtured to use their creativity and imagination to design and make real-life products that solve relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

Design and Technology ignites in children the ability to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team with a wide range of transferable skills.

D&T projects link closely to the topics where the children are encouraged to shine as innovators, problem solvers and risk-takers.

High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the school community.

Implementation

Design Technology is taught through the medium of drawing and design ideas through to the safe, accurate use of tools to make products. Children are taught to cut, shape and join a variety of materials as well as being given the opportunities to learn about cooking and nutrition.

Impact

We teach children to accept responsibility for their behaviour whilst working safely with tools and equipment.
We show how children contribute positively to the lives of others when designing products with a specific purpose that solves a problem.
Through the designing process, children develop their self-esteem and self-confidence in ways by bringing out hidden talents and abilities.
