Thornbridge Outdoors and Wild Week 2023 19.6.23

We enjoyed a wonderful week of outdoors and natural world themed activities for our annual wild week. We walked around Thornbridge gardens, completed scavenger hunts, enjoyed a mindful Thai Chi lesson, challenged ourselves taking part in a variety of activities at the Thornbridge Outdoors centre, listened to a talk from our local police officer, went pond dipping in our school pond,  plus many more activities!

Recycling Truck visit 21.6.23

As part of our social change topic, 'seeds of change' last term, our classes have been investigating the impact of recycling on our local area. In our English lessons, we wrote to our local recycling team at Derbyshire Dales District Council and thy very kindly sent their recycling team to our school to deliver some interesting recycling lessons and they even let us sit in the recycling truck and find out how it worked!

St.Giles' Church Flower Festival - 13.5.23

Longstone pupils have contributed to this year's 'Flower Festival' (13th - 20th May) with some great art work on display at St. Giles church based on the theme of 'hobbies'. Please feel free to support this event by visiting the displays in the church and making a donation. Refreshments will be served in the village hall each day from 10am - 4pm.

Coronation of King Charles III 5.5.23

As a school we had the most wonderful day celebrating the coronation of King Charles III by writing poems, singing The National Anthem, making crowns, holding a crown parade, dressing in our royal clothes, having a family picnic AND our pupil parliament planted an oak tree, which was blessed by Reverend Nicola from St. Giles' Church.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park March 2023

As part of our topic on Africa, we took a whole school trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We enjoyed exploring the grounds of the park and finding out lots about animals from Africa as well as other parts of the world. We also got to hold lots of animals in the really informative workshops.

Minibeast Visit to School January 2023

As part of our topic on 'The Amazing Rainforest of the Amazon,' we were lucky enough to have a visit from The Minibeast Man. We learnt all about exotic species of minibeasts and reptiles that live in the Amazon rainforests and even got to hold them!
