Hello from Mr Raybould!Hello and welcome to the Rowling Class webpage!
Well, we're still in lockdown and the school is closed to most children! Seesaw is the place to be for all activities and we're using Google Meet to connect as a class. The Seesaw link and links to a range of useful websites can be found on the first blue button to the right. You could head over to the lockdown page from the first time (second blue button on the right) as there is some good information on there. To see this week's timetable, click the blue button below... Learning at Home: Making PapyrusLearning at Home: Making PyramidsLearning at Home: Egyptian CartouchesAutumn TermFor the first part of the Autumn term, we focussed on getting back into school life after such a long time away from full-time education. The second half of the term will be no different: well-being and mindfulness will continue to be at the forefront of our life in the classroom.
Our topic this half-term is OUT OF THIS WORLD and, in science, we have been looking at the Earth, the Sun and the Moon as well as the other planets in the Solar System. Computing will be about programming a Scratch game where the main character has to avoid "Space Junk." Our writing has focussed on a narrative story that involves sci-fi (which I'm now looking forward to reading!) as well as writing a biography about a famous astronaut. Maths will round off our work on multiplication and division which will lead into several weeks focussing on fractions. So far we have looked at equivalent fractions as well as switching between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Finally, Art this half-term will concentrate on an abstract artist named Peter Thorpe who uses space and rockets as a main theme for his paintings. PE is on Tuesdays and Thursday - remember to come to school already in PE kit. You can follow Mr Raybould on Twitter for snippets of what's been happening in class. |

Writing:
Children have written some wonderful sci-fi stories called Alien Landing and have enjoyed reading these so far. We have now begun to prepare writing a biography about Helen Sharman. Our Talk 4 Writing in the first half-term focussed on describing settings in the opening and build-up of a story. Children discovered that you can write about the weather, use similes and metaphors and use list sentences with interesting adjectives to describe the features of the setting. Spellings: Each week, we will look at a new spelling rule (e.g. 'shuhs' words spelt -cious) or a collection of words (e.g. ambitious adjectives). In class, we will complete activities on those words. Spellings can be practiced in a whole variety of ways which can be found on the button opposite. We also use Spelling Shed which can be found at the link above - new weekly spellings will go live on a Friday evening. Spelling assessments are on Fridays. |

Nearly every day, we will practice times tables using a paper based version of Times Tables Rock Stars (link above). The times tables that children practice will be personalised to them based on their progress. Children can practice at home using the web or app based versions.
