Science

Intent

At Longstone CE Primary School, we nurture children to help them understand and question the world around them by developing their scientific knowledge through a range of exciting opportunities across the curriculum.

Science is linked to topics and real-life scenarios; igniting an interest in the subject, thus increasing our children’s cultural capital.

It is intended that children’s knowledge of working scientifically is developed so that their ability to investigate questions and ideas effectively; to explain what is happening; predict how things will behave; analyse causes and develop conclusions, patterns and links shine through all aspects of their education.

Implementation

Science topics follow our four year topic cycle and repeat every two years.

Lessons are taught through a range of theoretical and practical approaches where 'working scientifically' skills are prioritised.

Impact

We develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.

We develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.

We equip pupils with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

We equip pupils with the skills and opportunities our pupils will be confident lifelong learners that will explore the world around them.
