Sir Patrick McLoughlin MP

The children asked him questions about life as an MP.  We found out that he used to be a miner and did not go to university.  We also found out that Westminster Palace is overun by mice and that he has three offices in London!  He was once caught doodling on TV during a long and boring meeting!
Picture
Fracking:  He thinks that we need gas and we have to find it somewhere.  He thinks it sounds safer than mining close to the surface of the ground. Fracking would be 3-4 miles underground.  He thinks there are two sides to the argument.

Brexit:  Sir Patrick McLoughlin campaigned to REMAIN in the EU (European Union), but his side lost.  It has been decided by the people of the UK so it's the government's job to find a good way forward.  It does mean that in the future the government cannot blame Europe for the things that go wrong.  All the decisions will be made by the politicians in future.

Three words to sum up the job of an MP:  Rewarding, Exhilerating, Depressing!

Christmas presents:  He got a pair of walking boots and the new biography by Kenneth Clarke (who also is a Conservative MP)

Meeting the Queen:  He has met the Queen twice.  Once to become the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and the second to be knighted.
