Growing our own!

Picture

Many of the children have planted seeds.
They are going to nurture them over the time of our topic - let's see how many we can keep going strong!

Chinese Tea Ceremony

Andy, a friend of Mrs Hartley, visited Tolkien to share in a Chinese tea ceremony.  He brought his special crockery and all the children shared in the rituals.  Andy brought a variety of tea and the children chose which one they wanted to try; one group were even brave enough to try the strong pu-erh tea! He also made Chinese dumplings for the whole class.  Andy steamed them in a bamboo steamer.

P.H.S.E.

In our P.H.S.E. sessions this term, we are exploring emotions.  We wrote down as many emotions that we could think of... but not before an impromptu dance to Pharrell Williams' track, Happy!

Decoration Day

To begin our festivities at Christmas, we enjoy decoration day.  Parents and friends of school come in and help us get the festivities started with lots of crafts and fun!

DT

This half term we are making toys featuring a cam.  We have explored moving toys and we have made a prototype with different shaped cams.

Science

In science this term we have been exploring forces.  We have been learning about different types of forces and have been testing our predictions through experiments.  We have been thinking scientifically and writing up our experiments under the following headings: Apparatus (with diagram), Method, Results and Conclusion.

This week we have been continuing our topic by experimenting with levers, gears and pulleys.  We had fun playing tug of war and understood the difference in resistance once a pulley was introduced.  Below are pictures of our tug of war experiment - we had to be careful not to catch our fingers in the ropes!
